What this tool does

A practice range that picks a stretch of real Binance history, hides the future and lets you step forward one candle at a time while you buy and sell with virtual money. Unlike the one-shot Chart Quiz, you keep managing a position for 50, 100 or 200 candles — entering, adding, trimming and exiting — and at the end your return is compared with simply holding through the same candles. While you play, the coin and the dates are hidden and prices are shown as % from the starting close.

How it is calculated

Period: for the coin (random from the top 30 by volume, or your pick), a start time is drawn uniformly between two days after its first Binance daily candle and 'now − 7 days − the candles needed', and 120 context candles plus the candles to play are fetched in one public-API call. If any candle is missing (exchange maintenance) or more than 3 candles have no trades or no movement, another period is drawn. The daily challenge derives the coin (one of 16), timeframe (1h, 4h or 1D) and start (2021-01-01 to 30 days ago) from the Korean (KST) date, so everyone gets the same 100 candles that day. Fill rule: orders fill instantly at the close of the last visible candle; the next candle's open, high and low are never used. Fee = filled notional × the per-side fee (0.1% by default, an assumption); no slippage. Order size = current equity × the chosen % (within cash or the 1× limit). The default is spot style (long or cash); 'Allow short' permits shorts up to 1× equity. Any position still open at the end is closed at the final close, with the fee. Scoring: your return = final equity ÷ 10,000 − 1. Buy and hold = buying everything at the starting close and selling at the final close, both with the fee. Win rate = share of closed trades (from flat back to flat, fees included) that made money. Max drawdown = the largest fall from a peak of the equity curve marked at each candle's close. Indicators (EMA 20/50, Bollinger 20/2, RSI 14, volume) are computed from the visible candles only.

Reading the screen

Chart and time axis

During play the time axis shows candles counted from the start candle (0), e.g. −120 … +37, instead of dates, and the price axis shows % from the starting close. Candles right of the 'Start' marker are the ones you have stepped through; the blank space after them is the hidden future. B marks a buy fill, S a sell fill, and the dashed line is the average entry.

Virtual account

Equity = cash + position size × current close. Unrealized PnL is the change since the current position was opened (entry fee included); realized PnL is the sum of closed trades. Position weight = position value ÷ equity.

Result card

The vs-hold figure is your return minus the buy-and-hold return, in percentage points. On the equity curve the yellow line is you, the grey line is buy and hold and the dashed line is the 10,000 USDT starting balance.

Things to know

Frequently asked questions

How is this different from the Chart Quiz?

The quiz asks one question — up or down 10 candles later — and ends. The replay trainer is a multi-step session: for 50–200 candles you keep deciding whether to enter, add, reduce or exit, with fees and drawdown counted, and you are compared with buy and hold.

Could future candles leak into the chart or the fills?

No. The chart, the indicators and the fills use only the candles revealed so far. Fills are at the close of the last visible candle, and indicators are recomputed from the visible closes each step. The next candle enters the screen and the calculations only after you press 'Next candle'.

Why hide the coin and the dates?

If you know the coin and date, memories like 'that was the crash' leak into your decisions (hindsight bias). Prices are also shown as % from the starting close so the absolute price cannot give the coin away. Everything is revealed at the end.

How is the daily challenge chosen?

A random sequence seeded with the Korean date (e.g. 2026-10-04) picks one of 16 coins, a timeframe and a start time, so everyone gets the same 100 candles that day. Only your first completion each day counts toward records and the streak; replays count as practice.

Where are my records stored?

Settings, the session in progress, past sessions (latest 200) and the daily streak stay in this browser's localStorage (xc:chart_replay:*) and are never sent to a server. A session in progress survives a reload, and 'Export / import records' moves them to another device.

Would real trading give the same result?

No. Fills at the close with no slippage, gaps or funding is a simplified assumption, and the fee rate is an assumption too. Real markets can produce different results.
